John Maeda’s endorsement of Lean Media

Today, Lean Media received an endorsement from John Maeda. John is Head of Computational Design & Inclusion at Automattic (the creators of WordPress) and also has a lengthy career as a scholar, author, and thinker about design-related issues at MIT, RISD, and KPCB. If you haven’t read it, I urge you to check out John’s most recent #DesignInTech report. These annual documents are truly eye-opening, and give valuable insights into design, technology, and social trends in the United States, China, and elsewhere.

I sent John a copy of the first printing of the Lean Media book. He wrote back, complementing me on the timeliness of the work and offering the following endorsement:

“Lamont has successfully taken concepts from the Lean Startup movement and applied them to media production projects. No longer can there be the ‘one visionary way’ — instead, there needs to be humility (know your customer) and incrementalism (test often) as the keys to creative outcomes.”

John included with his comments a hand-written note on a piece of paper-thin wood:

John Maeda creative energy

I am grateful for the endorsement and the words of encouragement. Thank you, John!
