Using FOMO to sell excess inventory: Product phase-out example

FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is real. The announcement below that we are phasing out a product type for one of our brands resulted in nearly every set selling out of inventory. While it was an expensive product line, it was a pain to deal with packing and shipping, with each order taking 15-20 minutes to prepare.

Most buyers learned about it through our genealogy newsletter that goes out to tens of thousands of people, plus some social media blurbs like this one. We sold thousands of dollars worth of inventory at full price, and got rid of all of the inventory. FOMO really worked!
